Several thousand houses and an environmental bonus are heading to a north Waikato town. A $37m Government loan announced on Tuesday morning will help speed-up a 2600-home subdivision in Te Kauwhata, on the shore of Lake Waikare.
Te Kauwhata is rapidly developing into a suburb of Auckland, the town is going through a massive housing construction phase with large housing areas been developed on the fringe of the Waikato town and its primary target is Aucklanders.
Almost 80 per cent of property sales are to Aucklanders and the population is tipped to double in a year. Kirsty Wynn visits sleepy Te Kauwhata.
